A extended voyage around Australia is being halted in the wake of the fatal incident of an older female passenger who was stranded by the ship on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with shipmates from the vessel, but separated from the party for a break. The ship sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the ship staff realised the woman was missing.

A major hunt found her person the next day.

Officials are examining the incident, together with law enforcement and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer stated that guests and staff on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the continuation of the journey had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he mentioned that travelers would be provided a full refund, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the passengers via private aircraft".

Regulatory bodies also released an latest communication, and said they had "issued a order to the Commander" prohibiting any new passengers from getting on the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the liner in the Australian city upon its return.
